AHS Volleyball Reaches Semis

Alameda High School Hornets
The Alameda High School (AHS) women’s volleyball team advanced to the North Coast Section (NCS) Div. II semifinals after a victory over Benicia High School Saturday, Nov. 2, at home. 

The Hornets defeated the Panthers, 3-1 (25-21, 29-27, 15-25, 25-19), in the NCS quarterfinal match. The team took on Carondelet in the semifinal on Wednesday, Nov. 6. 

The Hornets entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed out of 16 teams. They defeated El Cerrito, 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-23), in the first round on Oct. 30. 

The Hornets improved their overall record to 25-6. They have a 5-5 record in the West Alameda County Conference (WACC) Foothill League.

St. Joseph Notre Dame Pilots
The St. Joseph Notre Dame (SJND) women’s volleyball team’s season ended with a 3-2 loss to University High of San Francisco in the NCS Div. IV quarterfinals. The Pilots won the first set, 25-23, but lost the next two sets, 25-9 and 25-20. SJND won the fourth set, 25-21, but lost the tiebreaker set, 15-10.

The Pilots entered the tournament as the No. 7 seed out of 16 teams. They beat McKinleyville High, 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-12), in the first round on Oct. 30.

Last year the Pilots were bounced in the first round of the NCS Div. IV playoffs. They lost to Roseland University Prep of Santa Rosa, 3-1. In that match they won the first set, 25-14, but lost the next three sets, 25-14, 25-18 and 25-21.

The Pilots finished the season with a 21-13 overall record and 9-3 record in the Bay County East League. They lost in the league tournament final to Head-Royce High of Oakland, 3-1, on Oct. 25.

Encinal High School Jets 
The Encinal High School (EHS) women’s volleyball team ended its 2019 season with a 3-1 loss to Tamalpais High of Mill Valley in the NCS Div. III first round on Oct. 29.

The Jets won the first set, 25-16, but lost the next three sets to the Red Tailed Hawks, 25-23, 25-22 and 25-21. EHS entered the tournament as the No. 11 seed. 

The Jets went 15-13 overall, but were a perfect 10-0 in the WACC Shoreline League.
