Alameda High School (AHS) women tennis players Juliana Johnson and Olivia Willard won the double’s tournament at the West Alameda County Conference (WACC) individual championships on Nov. 5th and 6th.

In the final round on Saturday, Nov. 6, Johnson, a freshman, and Willard, a senior, came back from a set down to beat a Bishop O’Dowd duo, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.

The AHS women’s tennis team completed its 2021 regular season with a 12-3 overall record and finished in second place in WACC.

Four Hornets were selected All League: Johnson and Willard as singles competitors, and juniors Van Khanh Hoang and Angeline Yi as a doubles team. Willard and Johnson will compete in the double’s competition in the North Coast Section Div. I Championship tournament. AHS qualified as a team for the tournament for the first time in several years. The Hornets faced Redwood High School of Larkspur in the first round on Tuesday, Nov. 9. The match took place after the Alameda Sun went to press.
