AFD Douses Structure Fire

Last Thursday at 7:35 p.m., Alameda firefighters responded to a residential structure fire on Grand Street. First-arriving crews found smoke and fire in the kitchen of a single-story dwelling. The occupant was able to evacuate prior to arrival of the fire department.

Firefighters used pre-connected hose lines to douse the fire while other crews ventilated the structure. The fire was knocked down in about 20 minutes. Damage was confined to two rooms.

Twenty firefighters responded. There were no reports of injuries. An adult female was displaced and will be staying with a friend. An AFD fire investigator is working to determine the cause and origin. Assisting agencies included Alameda Police, Alameda Municipal Power, City of Alameda Building Department and Pacific Gas & Electric. Co.
