AEF Middle School Basketball League Registration Now Open
AEF Middle School Basketball League Registration Now Open
Registration for the Alameda Education Foundation (AEF) middle school basketball league opened on Jan. 6.
Students compete for their school teams and must attend the school they play for. Only students who are enrolled full time in an Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) or Alameda public charter middle school, in grades 6 to 8, and in good academic standing at the school, are eligible to compete for their school of enrollment.
The participation fee is $75. There are no refunds. All student-athletes must be registered in AEF’s online registration system before trying out. Registration does not guarantee team selection. Students will be placed on a waitlist. Once team selections are made by the coach, selected students will be contacted in order to complete the registration.
Tryouts will begin mid to late January 2022. Contact your school site for tryout information. Games begin early March and end prior to Spring break. Games will be played at the Alameda Point Gym, located 1101 West Red Line Ave., on dates to be determined later.
Scholarships are available to qualified AUSD or public-school students. Scholarships are available as follows:
• Student/family is enrolled in a food assistance program — 90%
• Student/family qualifies for assistance under the McKinney-Vento Act, Alameda Point Collaborative, or similar program or is experiencing particular hardship — 100%;
• Parent/guardian expresses a need for assistance but is not covered under the foregoing conditions — 50%.
Scholarship requests should be made after a student is selected for the team by emailing AEFSports@AlamedaEducation.org.
The 2022 basketball program guidelines, policies, and rules and regulations will be posted later. The COVID-19 protocols will be based on the Nov. 2021 protocols but are subject to change.
All participants — students, coaches, volunteers — must be masked at all times for practice or games except when doing outside conditioning that requires intense aerobic activity and proper spacing is maintained, masks may be pulled down.
All coaches and all refs must be vaccinated. Unvaccinated students must show proof of a negative COVID test within one week of practice or games. Site coaches will monitor. A student with a positive test must quarantine for 10 days and have medical clearance to resume participation.
No spectators are allowed at practices or games. Each team may designate volunteers — students or adults — who may register with AEF to be included on the roster. Please check with your coach after team selections are made.
