All three Alameda high school softball teams have gotten off to a good start in the 2019 season.
The St. Joseph Notre Dame (SJND) softball team earned its first win of the season in a 3-0 victory over Tamalpais High of Mill Valley on March 12. SJND sophomore Caroline Evans was fantastic for the Pilots on the mound. She pitched five innings without giving up a run. She also struck out three batters while allowing just three hits.
Senior Caroline Bridges came on in relief at the bottom of the sixth inning. She pitched two scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and striking out two batters.
Evans and Bridges were also dominant in batting. Evans went 2-for-2 at the plate and drove in two runs. Bridges went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI.
The Pilots are 1-1 on the season and will face San Leandro today at Leydecker Park.
The Encinal High School (EHS) softball team is 4-2 on the season with two wins in its last three contests. The Jets defeated San Lorenzo High, 15-0, on March 11. Mt. Eden High of Hayward got the best of them, 16-4, on March 13. EHS was able to rebound with a 16-11 victory over Hayward High on March 15. The Jets began the season with a 14-2 victory over Miramonte of Orinda on Feb. 19. The Jets have scored double digits in three of its six contests this season. The Jets will face San Lorenzo in their next match today at Lower Washington Park.
The Alameda High (AHS) softball team is 5-3 on the season. They have won five of the last six games after starting the season 0-2. They defeated Irvington High of Fremont, 16-5, in the last match on March 18. AHS began their hot streak with a 7-2 victory over Dougherty Valley High of San Ramon on March 8. They followed that with a 4-2 win over El Cerrito High on March 9 and an 18-0 win over Miramonte High on March 11. After a loss to Berkeley High on March 13, the team beat Campolindo High of Moraga, 5-4, on March 14. The Hornets will face San Leandro High tomorrow at home.
