92nd Commuters Now Underway

 

Two players sit atop the leaderboard at the halfway mark of the 92nd Alameda Commuters Golf Tournament at Corica Park. 

Jason Anthony and Daniel Robertson lead in the longest running Alameda golf tournament after two rounds of play with matching two-under-par 142s. Anthony, a Fresno State alum, shot one-under par 71s in round one on April 6, and round two on April 7. Robertson posted a three-under 69 in round one, but took a step back in round two with a one-over-par 73. Robertson was the only golfer to shoot below a 70 in round one when he shot his three-under 69.

Three people are tied for third place at one-under-par 143 after two rounds of play. Fresno State freshman Tyler Gardner shot a one-over-par in round one, but rebounded with a two-under 70 on Sunday. 

St. Mary’s College junior Evan Peterson shot four-over par in round one, but posted a five-under 67 in round two. His five-under par outing was the best score in round two. Last year, Petersen also sat at one-under par after the first two rounds. He shot a one-over-par 73 in round one and a two-under 70 in round two. He finished 45th overall with a nine-over 297. 

Aaron Chen also posted a one-under par after two rounds. The Mission High School of San Jose senior shot a one-over 73 in round one and two-under 70 in round two. Last year Chen posted the same exact scores in the first two rounds. He finished 27th overall with an even-par 288. Other notable participants include Alameda native David Na. He’s tied for 28th place with a two-round 148. He posted a one-over 73 in round one and three-over 75 in round two. 

Sebastian Iqbal finished tied for 14th with a two-over 146. The Pioneer High of San Jose senior shot an even-par in round one and two-over in round two. Last year Iqbal finished tied for third with an 11-under 277. Iqbal was tied for third last year with Brian Ma. This year Ma is tied for 49th place with a seven-over 151. Ma just barely made the seven-over cutline. 

More than 170 golfers participated in the tournament, but just 51 qualified for the remaining two rounds to be played this weekend, April 13 and 14. The senior tournament will also take place this weekend.
