65th Swim Meet Results

Young swimmers throughout the city showcased their talent at the 65th annual City Swim Meet last weekend Aug. 2 to 4, at the Encinal Swim Center. 

Sydney Thompson was one of the big winners of the weekend. The 13-year-old won all six meets she competed in. She won the girls’13- to 14-year-old (13-14) 200-yard individual medley (IM) with a time of 2:22.46. She won the girls’ 13- to 14-year-old 100-yard butterfly (1:04.30), 100-yard freestyle (57.52), 100-yard backstroke (1:08.37) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.27). She also won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.98.

Hanna Hosmer was also a six-time winner at the annual Swim Meet. Hosmer, 10, won six events in the girls’ nine- to- 10-year-old division. She won the 50-yard butterfly (40.54), 50-yard backstroke (39.62), 100-yard breaststroke (42.90) and 50-yard freestyle (36.04). She also won the 100-yard IM (1:23.91) and 100-yard freestyle (1:19.18).

Sofia Martin del Campo also won big at the three-day event winning four of seven events she competed in. Martin del Campo, 16, won the girls’ 15- to 18-year-old 200-yard IM with a time of 2:20.06. She also won the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.15), 100-yard freestyle (56.85) and 50-yard freestyle (26.37). 

Ethan Sue was one of the big winners on the boys’ side. Sue, 17, won five of the six events he competed in. He won the boys’ 15- to 18-year-old 200 IM with a time of 2:08. He also won the 100-yard butterfly (56.55), 100-yard freestyle (51.67) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.01). He also won the 50-yard freestyle (23.91).

Zachary Dortch won all five competitions he participated in. The 11-year-old competed in boys’ 11- to 12-year-old competitions. Dortch won the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:50.71. He also won the 50-yard butterfly (37.56), 100-yard freestyle (1:09.50), 50-yard freestyle (30.86) and 50-yard backstroke (41.04).

Jacob Yim won four of the seven events he competed in. Yim, 13, competed in boys’ 13- to 14-year-old division meets. He won the 200-yard IM (2:32.89), 100-yard backstroke (1:13.31), 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.79) and 50-yard freestyle (28.66). 

The event was not just for teens and pre-teens. Tim Velasco, 52, won the three 19-and-over men’s competitions. He won the 100-yard IM (1:06.56), 100-yard backstroke (1:04.72) and 50-yard freestyle (26.23).

There were 100 competitions at the annual meets The event ended with an award ceremony on Sunday.
