Professional soccer clubs, the Oakland Roots and the Oakland Soul, a new women’s soccer team set to debut in 2023, have named two locations as potential sites for their interim soccer stadium. The two proposed sites are near Oakland Coliseum and the former Alameda Naval Base at Alameda Point.
Men’s Basketball
• St. Joseph Notre Dame (SJND) lost to Serra High of San Mateo, 70-37 (Dec. 26); lost to Central Catholic of Modesto, 70-48 (Dec. 27); defeated Heritage High of Brentwood, 57-47 (Dec. 29).
This year saw many sports achievements from Alameda athletes. Alameda athletes and teams in soccer, basketball, baseball and track-and-field showcased their talent in the first half of the year.
Men’s Basketball
• St. Joseph Notre Dame (SJND) lost to Moreau Catholic of Hayward, 84-44 (Dec. 20); defeated Washington High of San Francisco, 66-64 (Dec. 21).
The Alameda High School (AHS) women’s basketball team resoundingly defeated the visiting Arroyo Dons of San Leandro by the score of 71-24. The Hornets improved to 7-0 while the Dons fell to 2-8.
Men’s Basketball
• St. Joseph Notre Dame (SJND) defeated Hayward High School, 54-50 (Dec. 13).
• Alameda High School (AHS) lost to Archbishop Mitty of San Jose, 58-27 (Dec. 16).
• Encinal High School (EHS) lost to Castro Valley High School, 59-46 (Dec. 13).
The Alameda Red Rocks Women’s Volleyball Club 17U Ashia team began its 2022-2023 club volleyball season at the Northern California Volleyball Association (NCVA) 17-and-under Power League Qualifiers on Dec. 10 and 11.
Two Alameda High School (AHS) softball players will be conducting mini softball clinics throughout the month of January for players in the 8U and 10 Under divisions looking to expand their games.

• St. Joseph Notre Dame (SJND) lost to Urban High of San Francisco, 39-38 (Dec. 10).
• Alameda High School (AHS) defeated Saint Mary’s of Albany of Albany, 69-59 (Dec. 7).
