In our second part of showcasing the 2013-14 winter sports’ season for Alameda high school athletes, we will take a trip to the soccer fields. This season the women’s teams are experiencing much better results than their male counterparts.

Sarah Valentine won the Alameda Women’s Golf Club’s (AWGC) third event of 2014 by shooting a net 68 at the Jack Clark Course last Thursday, Jan. 16.

Alameda youngsters from kindergarten to third grade are invited to take part in Alameda Recreation and Park Department’s (ARPD) Junior Warriors Basketball Clinic this winter at the Alameda Point Gym.

While most of the country is saddled with snow during the winter, the Bay Area is experiencing weather beautiful enough to play a few rounds of golf. That is exactly what the Alameda Women’s Golf Club (AWGC) did last Thursday, Jan. 9 on the Earl Fry Golf Course.

Alameda High School student Sulaiman Hameed accepted a college football scholarship to Washington State University (WSU) Monday, Jan. 6. The high school senior chose the Cougars over offers from Arizona State and UNLV.

The 40th Annual National Elks Hoops-Shoot contest will be held tomorrow Jan. 10 at 6 p.m. at the Alameda Point Gymnasium.

Dee Dee Appleton and Nora Solmoro tied to win the first Alameda Women’s Golf Club (AWGC) tournament of 2014 at the January Charm event on Jan. 2 on the Jack Clark Course. Solmoro and Appleton tied to shoot a net 67.

The Alameda Women's Nine Hole Golf Club held its Holiday Party at Pier 29 on Friday, Dec. 9 where members collected donations for Toys for Tots and food for the Alameda Food Bank.

The 2013-2014 fall sports' season has come to an end and it is time to look back at the great accomplishments of Alameda high school athletes.
