Football
• Alameda High School (AHS) defeated American of Fremont, 44-24 (Nov. 4) — season over.
• Encinal High School (EHS) lost to James Logan High of Union City, 44-6 (Nov. 4) — season over.
The Alameda High School (AHS) football team ended their regular season in style, sending longtime coach Steve Yamasaki into retirement with a 44-24 defeat of American High School of Fremont in front of a nice crowd of students and alumni on a cool winter night.
On Friday, Nov. 4, legendary Alameda High School football coach Steve Yamasaki was honored at halftime during the Hornets' last home game of the year at Thompson Field. Earlier in the season the beloved and longtime coach announced his retirement after 47 years of Alameda Hornet football.
The Alameda 13U Neptune Beach Pearl baseball team won the Bay Area Fremont National Championship Sports Halloween Havoc tournament on the weekend of Oct. 29-30 with a perfect 4-0 record.
The team ranked first after the first day of pool play, without losing a single game.
Alameda High School (AHS) golfer Penny Chai qualified for the NorCal Regional Championship after a top four individual performance in the North Coast Section (NCS) Div. 1 championship on Monday, Oct. 1. The event took place at the Foxtail Golf Club in Rohnert Park.
Football:
• Alameda High School (AHS) defeated to Kennedy High of Fremont, 26-24 (Oct. 29)
• Encinal High School (EHS) lost to James Logan High of Union City, 34-6 (Oct. 28)
The Encinal Jets failed to pull off the upset, losing to the visiting Tennyson Lancers of Hayward by the score of 36-6.
The Alameda High School (AHS) women’s water polo team defeated Castro Valley High on Saturday, Oct. 29 to win the West Alameda County Conference (WACC) tournament.
