Holding a 41-31 halftime lead, the Jets looked one step closer to their first holiday tournament championship in several years. However, a Miramonte High School team, riding a five-game winning streak, would not be denied.

The high school soccer season is currently on winter break with many Alameda high school teams looking to redeem themselves in the new year.

Eighteen days off between games is a long break for a team trying to find its rhythm. But rust wasn’t a factor for the Encinal High School (EHS) women’s basketball team when they defeated the St. Joseph Notre Dame women’s team, 64-7, on Dec. 21 on the Pilots’ home court.

Alameda natives Aziz and Kai Zarehbin competed in the Triple 8 Table Tennis Winterfest Tournament in Burlingame, Calif. on Dec. 3 to 5.

Encinal High School men’s basketball team went 1-1 last week. The Jets lost, 41-39, to St. Mary’s High of Albany on Dec. 15 before bouncing back to defeat Piedmont High School, 64-60, on Dec. 17. Both games were on the road. The Jets are now 4-3 on the season.

The Red Rock Alameda 16s boys club volleyball team finished 12th out of 16 teams at the boys’ 15- to 16–year-old Northern California Volleyball Association (NCVA) Regional Championship tournament on Dec. 11 and 12 in Roseville.

The Alameda High School (AHS) boys’ basketball team rebounded after a tough loss to defeat Bethel High of Vallejo, 66-50, in a nonleague match up on Dec. 11 at the Hornets’ Nest.

Encinal High School (EHS) men’s soccer lost, 4-0, to rival Alameda High School (AHS) on Dec. 10. on Willie Stargell Field.

Encinal High School (EHS) women’s soccer soared out of the gates to start the season, defeating Kennedy High of Fremont, 5-0, on Nov. 30 and Mt. Eden High of Hayward, 8-0, on Dec.3.

Encinal High School (EHS) men’s basketball team took down rival St. Joseph Notre Dame (SJND), 46-41, in overtime on Dec. 4 at the Pilots’ home gym. It was the Jets first win of the season.
