Alameda High School Coaches Honored
The California Coaches Association (CCA) honored two Alameda high school coaches at the State Coach of the Year Awards ceremony June 11 at the Sandpiper Community Center in Redwood City.

Alamedans Logan Chen and Clara Verdickt took first place in the California Beach Volleyball Association Santa Cruz Tour Stop 1 girls’ 12-and-under U division Wednesday, June 15. Chen and Verdickt beat out seven other teams on their way to winning the tournament.
The Alameda Gators swim team competed at the Orinda Aquatics Meet in Moraga on June 11.
On June 23, members of the Alameda Police Department (APD) will carry the “Flame of Hope” through the City of Alameda in support of the Special Olympics Northern California.
On Saturday, June 4, the Encinal High School (EHS) chess club went undefeated against Alameda High School (AHS) in the first ever “Island Board” chess tournament. The event was held on AHS’ campus.
On May 20, Encinal Junior High School’s sixth and seventh grade co-ed volleyball team won the Div. II championship over the Lincoln Lions. Although undermatched, the Jets won in two straight sets.
The Bay Area has gone basketball crazy with the return of the Golden State Warriors to the National Basketball Association (NBA) Finals. Alamedans have a chance to watch the beloved Warriors battle for the Larry O’Brien trophy on a 30-by-50-foot screen thanks to Alameda Theatre & Cineplex.
The Alameda High School (AHS) Athletic Hall of Fame committee will hold its fourth annual ceremony to induct and honor 10 former AHS athletes. The ceremony will take place at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, June 11 at the Alameda Elks Lodge.
The Alameda Islanders competed in the Special Olympics Northern California Swimming Regional on Saturday, May 21 at Mills College in Oakland.
Athletes competed in freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly swim competitions.
The Alameda Women’s Golf Club resumed normal play with low net competition Thursday, May 26 at the Metropolitan Golf Couse in Oakland. The women played in five flights based on current handicaps.
