St. Joseph Notre Dame women’s golf team member Cecilia Zhuo qualified for the North Coast Section (NCS) Div. 1 women’s golf championship, which is to be played on Monday, Oct. 31 at the Foxtail Golf Club South Course in Rohnert Park.

• Alameda High School (AHS) lost to Arroyo High of San Lorenzo, 35-14 (Oct. 14)
• Encinal High School (EHS) lost to Bishop O’Dowd of Oakland, 30-0 (Oct. 14)
The Alameda High School (AHS) Hornets football team lost to Arroyo High School of San Lorenzo by the final score of 35-14, dropping their overall record to 3-3-1 and their league record to 1-1.
Football:
• Alameda High School (AHS) defeated San Lorenzo High, 44-14 (Oct. 7)
• Encinal High School (EHS) lost to Castro Valley High, 35-0 (Oct. 7)
The Encinal High School (EHS) women’s tennis team’s record improved to 3-0 after a 7-0 victory over Mt. Eden High of Hayward on Sept. 29. The Jets’ great start almost never happened as the season was at risk of cancellation because the team had no coach days before the season began.
Women’s Volleyball:
• AHS defeated Piedmont High, 3-1 (Sept. 26); lost to Bishop O’Dowd of Oakland, 3-0 (Sept. 28); lost to Head-Royce of Oakland, 2-0 (Oct. 1).
About 40 friends, family members, former players and their parents gathered at Littlejohn Park Saturday, Sept. 24, to send youth basketball coach Sherman Lee into retirement.
The Alameda Women’s Golf Club (AWGC) has a new club champion. After three weeks of play, Carole Pillow won the trophy for the best overall gross score on Sept. 22. Over three weeks Pillow shot scores of 87-86-81 for a total net of 254.
