The 47th annual Elks Hoop Shoots Alameda city finals contest was held Friday, Jan. 10, at the Alameda Point Gym. The hoop shoots contest consists of a free -throw shooting competition where each contestant has 25 opportunities to shoot a basketball into the hoop.
Alameda’s Flaming Skulls Over-40 soccer team recently won Bladium’s Soccer C League’s championship. The league plays every Thursday night. The playoffs ended with the Flaming Skulls winning the championship game, bettering their opponent on penalty kicks at the end of the match.
Alameda native James Hahn played his first Professional Golf Association (PGA) tournament of the year at the Sony Open Jan. 9 to 12. Hahn, 38, competed with more than 150 other PGA golfers in the tournament played at the Wai’alae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Valor Games Far West, held annually at Alameda’s Coast Guard Island, provides a venue for more than 100 injured, ill and wounded veterans from the Western U.S. to compete in various sports. Now in its seventh year, the games will take place June 11 through 14.
The 47th annual Alameda Elks Hoop Shoots Alameda City Finals takes place tomorrow at the Alameda Point Gymnasium at 1101 West Red Line Ave.
The winners in each division will go on to represent the City of Alameda and the Alameda Elks at the District Shoot-Off in late January.
