Mastick Senior Center is hosting a multi-media art exhibit featuring art created by members participating in the various classes offered at the center. Included in the exhibit are writings, drawings, paintings, stained glass, ceramics, jewelry, quilts and mixed-media pieces.

Alameda Cub Scout Pack 1015 (sponsored by the Alameda Elks Lodge) recently received very special recognition from U.S. troops serving in Iraq. The Cub Scouts (spearheaded by Den Leader Heather Hildreth) have been collecting and sending care packages and personal messages to U.S.

The Alameda Sun has always respected the Alameda community’s sense of volunteerism. We often receive phone calls asking if Sun staff know of places where people can volunteer their time.

At a screening of the documentary film Shallow Waters, The Public Death of Raymond Zack, last Sunday, Alamedans struggled with the import of a particularly unfortunate turn of events that resulted in the death of Alameda resident Raymond Zack in 2010. 

New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis will visit Alameda Free Library by live video stream Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 6:30 p.m. Shalvis will discuss her bestselling romance novels just in time for Valentine’s Day.
