‘Reading Challenge’ a success at library

Editor:
The Alameda Free Library’s 2018 Summer Reading Challenge was quite a success. More than 3,100 registered participants joined us for a summer full of crafts, films, animal shows, story times, lectures, games, a portable planetarium and lots and lots of smiles.

We couldn’t have had this level of success without the help of our amazing sponsors. Many thanks to the members of the Friends of the Alameda Free Library for their generous support.

Thanks also to Tucker’s Super-Creamed Ice Cream and Subpar Miniature Golf, two local businesses that continued to support our readers despite it being a period of transition for both. Offering free goods and services to this many readers is a huge financial commitment and we appreciate them immensely.

We’d also like to thank the San Francisco Bay Ferry; Books, Inc. and the Oakland Athletics. By providing prizes for our Summer Reading Programs, these businesses and organizations provided the incentive many people need to keep reading, learning and growing all summer long.
