Come, enjoy the music of the community band
The Alameda Community Band will present a concert at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 12, at the Kofman Auditorium, 2200 Central Ave.
The band is a gem of cultural enthusiasm that should be better known. Every band member was either once a professional musician or still is, so the musicianship is quite beyond the "amateur" level one might expect of a community band.
The band’s October concert was an eclectic and lively mix of new music and old standards that included the "Emperor Norton March," conducted by composer Richard Frazier and the gospel song "Just a Closer Walk with Thee."
The band also performed a medley of Broadway tunes and "Elements," a petite symphony for earth, air, water and fire.
I am sure that December’s program will be interesting and tuneful. There is lots of room in the Kofman Auditorium so Alamedans can get a good seat to watch and hear their community band play.
