Open letter to sister city

The Alameda Sun received a copy of this letter.

Honorable Alessandro Bozzano, Mayor of City of Varazze:
Your sister city community of Alameda are very much aware of the coronavirus epidemic the world is facing today. We hope and pray that you in Varazze are spared from another critical emergency after the recent December rains that destroyed homes.

For more than 100 years, Alameda and Varazze have been connected by a few good friend and family relations. After becoming sister cities, that connection in our diverse community has grown a thousand times overnight. We want you to know that we are thinking of your well being and that we want to hear from you. As sister cities we should let each other know our circumstances whether we need need help or not. We may even learn from each other in combating COVID-19.

We realize how unprepared we are in Alameda to respond quickly to calls for humanitarian aid should our sister cities abroad need us; so we are now driven to do something about it. We are thankful for the sister city bond that draws our worlds together.
Yours in compassion, community and peace.
