Let’s verify those Measure A costs

Editor:
Ed Payne’s letter (“How much more can we possibly pay?” Jan. 23) seems to state that if Measure A passes, the school taxes on a 1,600-square-foot home in Alameda will rise from $276.68 to $702.68 ($426). Is this correct? What percent increase is that?

Please be aware that I am not advocating for or against Measure A, just asking for a fact check on these figures.

Rick Berman

Editor’s note: Alameda Sun staff relies on research partner League of Women Voters of Alameda to verify financial details of local elections. Please see the above letter for more details. Mathematically, based on the unverified figures presented in Berman’s letter, $426 represents a 154 percent increase over $276.68.
