Thank you to Wood Middle School
Two years ago, hundreds of Lum students and their families were facing much uncertainty with the closure of Lum Elementary School. In August 2017, Principal Cammie Harris, Assistant Principal Kent Peterson and their team at Wood Middle School opened a temporary elementary program for 90 fourth and fifth graders from Lum. They could not have been more welcoming of our children and our families.
Not only did they make room for nearly 100 additional students, they designed a brand-new program from the ground up that provided our kids with excellent academics and extracurricular activities. The staff at Wood made sure our Junior Beavers did not miss out being the youngest at a middle school. From the office staff and nurse to the custodial and kitchen staff, it was clearly a team effort. We cannot thank them enough for their support and generosity.
Much credit goes to the amazing teachers. Last year’s fifth-grade teachers Eva Cohen and Michael Kelley were fantastic. Despite being only one-year assignments, they embraced their positions and jumped in with enthusiasm and passion. The same can be said of Sarah Greenberg who has taught the current fifth graders for the past two years. Greenberg has been a phenomenal teacher. She has challenged our kids and held high expectations, but knows when a hug and soothing words are needed.
We are eternally grateful to the Wood community for its hard work and support. Our kids have thrived and we as parents could not be more appreciative.
