The Alameda Blaze came up short in their first-ever appearance at the Western Nationals, dropping two out of three games at the championship fast-pitch softball tournament held in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Hundreds of runners and walkers came to Alameda from all over to participate in the annual Run for the Parks 10K run/walk. Steve Whitelam of Berkeley, 27, finished first with a time of 32:53.
