A new session of Alameda Aquatics begins July 10 at both the Emma Hood Swim Center and Encinal Swim Center. Programs include swim lessons, lap swimming, recreational swimming and a new water polo club.
Entries for the 52nd annual City of Alameda Swim Championship will be available at both pools beginning July 17. Sign up by Aug. 4. The event is sponsored by the Ala-Gator and Alameda Island Aquatic swim teams. All swimmers must be Alameda residents and have a current U.S.A. Swimming Registration number.
The event will be held Aug. 18 through 20 at the Emma Hood Swim Center, 2256 Alameda Ave.
Summer Scuba Classes
An open water scuba diving class is available to students 13 and older from the Alameda Recreation and Parks Dept. (ARPD) July 13 through 30 and Aug. 8 through 27. The course will teach students the fundamentals of scuba diving, including dive equipment and techniques.
Classes will be held at Longfellow Center and the Encinal High School pool.
Anyone who is in good health, reasonably fit and comfortable in the water can earn a certification. To be fully certified, divers must complete five pool dives and four open water dives in Monterey Bay.
