The Alameda 9-10 All Stars Blue Team (10s) and the 10-11 All Stars Blue Team (11s) won their district championship games in the same night, July 17, for the first time in Alameda Little League history.
The 10s defeated Clayton Valley 10-2 July 12, and Walnut Creek, 4-1 July 14. Then, July 17, the Blue Team downed Albany for the district title. The 10s travel to Corte Madera tomorrow to begin the sectional tournament among five teams from districts 3, 4, 35, 53 and 64. Their first game against district 64 starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Jill Wagner Field Complex with Twin Cities Little League hosting the event.
The 11s clinched their title in the same night as the 10s, after a run up to the championship game that required defeating the tough Walnut Creek team twice. The Blue Team defeated South Oakland 6-5 July 12, Walnut Creek 9-2, July 14 (just after Walnut Creek sent Alameda’s Red Team to the loser’s bracket) and then Walnut Creek again July 17 by a score of 14-2.
The 11s begin their sectional tournament today in Vacaville. Additional details were not available by press time.
