Harvest Season Arrives

Dennis Evanosky

Shorter days and longer nights signify the season of the harvest, especially at "The Farm" at Alameda Point Collaborative. Last Saturday, the collaborative hosted its third annual Harvest Festival, which not only taught visitors about the activities of farm life when it comes time to reap what the farmers sowed back in the spring, but also about the collaborative's offerings. The Farm was created in 2005 to give young people a chance to learn leadership skills and healthier eating habits. Above, Luana España, an Alameda Point Collaborative volunteer, speaks to local children about life on the farm. España holds up a horseshoe as she describes the traditional role of horsepower in running a farm before the advent of the tractor. The event also featured live performances, food, free pumpkins and other fun.
