Alameda Theater Celebrates 80th Year

Theresa Poletti, Leah Vass, Robin Brewer and Jonathan Belmares stand in front of a 1927 Chevrolet at the Alameda Theatre & Cineplex. Their dress reflected the year 1932 when the theater first opened. The theater celebrated its 80th birthday in style, charging just 80 cents to see the very same opening night movie program theatergoers enjoyed on Aug. 16, 1932. The program included Shirley Temple's Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, Laurel & Hardy's "The Chimp," the Mills Brothers bouncing-ball rendition of "I Ain't Got Nobody," a newsreel and a Betty Boop short. Proceeds from the celebration will benefit a local charity.
