In the next few weeks, Bay Area residents will be encouraged to get outside, hop on a bike and ride. There are plenty of benefits for those who choose to take the challenge.
Alameda students started their Bike to School Week yesterday. Adults can participate in a Bike to Work Day next Thursday, May 13. Alamedans working in Oakland can join the celebration at Frank Ogawa Plaza next to Oakland City Hall. A pancake breakfast starts at 7 a.m., and a press conference at the event will feature local elected officials and a prize raffle at 8:30 a.m.
For Alameda residents who work in San Francisco and wonder how they can partake in Bike to Work Day, there is a solution. The organization overseeing the Alameda Harbor Bay and Alameda/Oakland Ferries has announced that bicyclists will qualify for a free ferry ride during the celebration. Participants must carry their bikes when they board either ferry.
The Harbor Bay Ferry Terminal is located at 1141 Harbor Bay Parkway on Bay Farm Island. The Alameda/Oakland Ferry Terminal is located at 2990 Main St., just after Rosenblum Cellars. The ferries will stop at the San Francisco Ferry Building and Pier 39. For more information, visit www.eastbayferry.com
